Bioinformatics Training at PGC Mindanao
PGC Mindanao conducted an online training on bioinformatics to incoming college students which aims to introduce the participant to setting up and running a real-world bioinformatics workflow for processing and analyzing a large biological dataset.
The participants will learn the basics on Linux command line and Python programming, fundamentals of RNA-Seq such as transcriptome assembly using Trinity, and gene expression analysis using BLAST+, RSEM, and edgeR.
The training started last July 26 and ends September 6, 2020.
Today, bioinformatics algorithms made it possible to quickly assemble the genome sequence of the coronavirus which helped scientists to quickly develop diagnostic test kits and give immediate head start in vaccine development.
