The Philippine Genome Center Mindanao aims to promote genomics research and capacitate the scientific community of Mindanao.
Furthermore, PGC Mindanao envisions a strong collaborative research environment among Universities, private institutions, and local researchers in Mindanao, as well as international partners for strengthening research endeavors and wide dissemination of research outputs. In line with this, PGC Mindanao encourages research partnerships and exchanges between leading research institutions abroad. A PEP Talk on Medical Genetics was conducted in order to encourage UP Mindanao researchers to consider pursuing a medical research track. The speakers were Dr. Chao Kai Hsu from National Cheng-Kung University Taiwan, and Dr. Bryan Edgar K. Guevara from the Southern Philippines Medical Center. Students and Research Staff of Dr. Chao Kai Hsu from Taiwan also attended the PEP talk.
A PEP Talk on Studying Abroad was also conducted in order to encourage UP Mindanao research staff to pursue graduate studies in prominent research Universities outside the country, with the hopes of being able to effect translational research work in the Philippines after completing their international training. Dr. Dennis Nicuh Lozada, a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Washington State University served as the resource speaker.
